THE STUDIOS

THE STUDIOS

Since we became the world’s first recording studio, we’ve spent almost a century building the spaces, equipment and engineering expertise that music makers need to create and capture world-moving work.

Our studios have seen Elgar capture concertos, The Beatles break boundaries. Pink Floyd progress rock. They’ve pushed pop, soul and hip hop to new places with Gaga, Winehouse and Ocean. And with the scale of our studios, we’re able to capture the sound needed to move millions through film and games orchestral scores.

Our expert engineers and world-renowned gear help artists, performers, composers and producers release their vision and capture the truest possible version of it – from recording the first note, to mastering and beyond.

From writing rooms, to studios, to mastering suites. From smaller spaces to create in solitude, to the world’s largest purpose-built studio to capture at scale, this place was created as a testament to sound and a symbol of musical excellence. It’s as true today as it ever was.

Technical services

A unique and broad set of skills has been passed down from generation to generation within our world-renowned Technical Department. But never ones to rest on our laurels, the team remains at the cutting edge of technology and how to make sure it works smoothly. This combination makes them rather unique. And they’re here whenever you need them, on hand to respond to any technical requirements you may have.

Whether a vintage microphone needs fixing or a lathe needs fine-tuning, or perhaps you’re after that elusive laptop adaptor or a workaround that doesn’t even exist yet, the Technical Services department are ready round-the-clock to support you in your creative process.

Dating all the way back to the start of EMI in 1931, the team has always been inspired to develop solutions in-house - electronic audio units, recording consoles, IT hardware and software - where something off-the-shelf just might not do. This is a long-held and much-admired Abbey Road tradition that remains an important part of how we work today, with bespoke enhancements designed by the team in most of our rooms.
