In 1955, Abbey Road created the Record Engineering Development Department to push music recording forward for artists and audiences alike. Over the following decades, the innovation from REDD would open up new possibilities to artists and change the sound of popular music as we knew it.
The new Abbey Road REDD Labs takes nearly a century of audio innovation and uses it to lead the world in sonic technology once again. REDD Lab's mission is to make sure that artists and engineers have access to the best ways to make music, whether this is timeless tech from the past, the latest ideas from today, or something not quite invented yet.
REDD Labs is Abbey Road’s end-to-end audio innovation offer, giving creators better ways to make music, supercharging listening experiences, and helping industry design, build, and scale next-generation audio technology.
Built on Abbey Road’s pioneering R&D heritage from stereo and ADT to its iconic recording desks - REDD Labs develops new tools, technologies and experiences for creators, brands and industry partners worldwide.
Its work spans startup incubation, immersive and spatial audio research, product development and commercial partnerships, connecting creative experimentation, technical innovation and real-world cultural impact. It does this across three key areas, helping to push the ways that artists create, capture and connect their music with Tools, Hardware and Plugins & Samples.
Through its incubator scheme, REDD Labs pinpoints and progresses the most exciting new music-making technology out there.

The Abbey Road REDD Incubator is an expression of nearly a century’s worth of audio innovation and legacy born from Abbey Road’s Record Engineering Development Department established in 1955.
It exists to empower artists by scouting and developing the most exciting new music technology. The REDD Incubator nurtures entrepreneurs and creators who are developing groundbreaking, artist-centric technology to solve key challenges in the modern music industry through its global startup programme and has helped its alumni raise more than $100 million to fuel their growth.
Its mission is to ensure music makers around the globe have access to cutting-edge technology that transforms how they create and engage with music.
