My Abbey Road... with Isabel Garvey

From how an Abbey Road engineer stumbled across an invention, the engineer sent out for chicken bones to get a different sound on the drums, the singer who wanted the bubbles stirred out of her champagne or why the Challen piano has a huge cigarette burn on it, our Managing Director, Isabel Garvey, shares just why Abbey Road is such a magical place in this week's anniversary addition of #MyAbbeyRoad.

Isabel's Abbey Road

I still can’t quite believe that I get to cross “that” crossing and walk through the big oak doors to work every day. I feel beyond privileged to walk the corridors where so many have found inspiration, pushed innovation and created music that has shaped popular culture. Life and work at Abbey Road is wonderfully varied and I feel a huge responsibility to look to the future and add a little more to the story and legend of this place.

Isabel's Favourite Moment

It’s impossible to pin it down to one moment! I love the constant storytelling in the building that brings colour and texture to the activity in the studios past and present. Whether a fabled account of how an Abbey Road engineer stumbled across an invention, the engineer sent out for chicken bones to get a different sound on the drums, the singer who wanted the bubbles stirred out of her champagne or why the Challen piano has a huge cigarette burn on it. Some veer into urban myths, but are passed down through the Abbey Road family - it reminds me that it is the people in the building that make Abbey Road magical.
