28th December 2023

Abbey Road Rewind is back for 2023, as our cracking team of engineers share studio stories, highlights and their ones to watch for next year.

Find out what mastering engineer Miles Showell, senior mix technician Kobi Quist and technical engineer Dan Cole shared from their year at Abbey Road.

What was your favourite project at Abbey Road this year?

Miles

"It has been an interesting year with plenty of highlights including sessions for Dua Lipa, Mark Knopfler, Calvin Harris, Elton John, The Cure, The Beatles' last ever single and Underworld. But my personal favourite project was the latest album from Scott Matthews - Restless Lullabies. It is genuinely one of the most beautiful records I have worked on in my entire career."

Kobi

"Lee. A film about World War II photographer and war correspondent Lee Miller played by Kate Winslet. It was a passion project by the actress, producers and family of Lee Miller. Apart from being an amazing film with an amazing sound, we had a great time mixing the film on Mix Stage as everyone involved was a joy to work with."

Dan

"Room 35 – Atmos Mastering Room. Technically we built this one in 2022, but added some toys and fine-tuned during 2023, it’s been great to see it thrive under Oli Morgan & Co."

What was your favourite album of 2023?

Miles

"Janelle Monáe - The Age of Pleasure."

Kobi

"Protoje & Zion I Kings: In Search Of Zion."

Dan

"Yussef DayesBlack Classical Music. UK jazz scene once again shows why it’s the best."

Which new artist / band are you most excited about for 2024?

Miles

"I pretty much love everything that Tom Misch has ever done, including his side project Supershy. I am looking forward to new material from Tom in 2024. As a fan, I would just love to work on his stuff, so if you happen to see this Tom…"

Kobi

"An artist called Mortimer and his debut album."

Dan

"Jockstrap – incredible set at Wide Awake festival, looking forward to hearing what comes next."
