2022 Rewind with Geoff Pesche, Sean Magee and Justina Bryce

22nd December 2022

As 2022 comes to a close, we asked the Abbey Road team to look back and reflect on what has been a particularly poignant year for the studios.

From their favourite projects to work on, most played albums and their tips for which artists will be burgeoning in 2023 — find out more about Abbey Road's Geoff Pesche, Sean Magee and Justina Bryce in our 2022 Rewind series.

Favourite project you’ve worked on at Abbey Road this year and why?

Geoff Pesche

"Mastering work for Demob Happy which is not set for release until 2023."

Sean Magee

"James Yorkston, Nina Pearson and The Second Hand Orchestra's The Great Sea Eagle

I’ve been working with James since 1997, he’s extremely talented and a lovely bloke to boot. His songs are lovely and get an emotional reaction from the listener."

Justina Bryce

"It has to be recording the strings for part of Stormzy’s album This Is What I Mean. The songs were great and it was one of my first assistant engineer jobs here at Abbey Road, so it was an amazing experience. Plus Stormzy is one of my favourite artists, especially from the UK."

Your favourite album of 2022?

Geoff Pesche

"Mica Millar Heaven Knows"

Sean Magee

"Rammstein's Zeit"

Justina Bryce

"Beyoncé's Renaissance"

Which new artist / band are you most excited about for 2023 and why?

Geoff Pesche

"Mica Millar. Think Etta James meets Dusty Springfield. Stellar debut album, a star in the making."

Sean Magee

"Marc O's L’Homme De L’Ombre.

He’s a very good friend and his music, along with the music of his wife, Belle Scars is brilliant. Great guitar player and excellent person to sit and drink Calvados with."

Justina Bryce

"Chase Young! He’s incredibly talented and I’ve heard the music he’s been working on, which is amazing. Alternative R&B at it’s finest."
