Melody Gardot Releases 'Sunset In The Blue' - Recorded in Studio Two

26th October 2020

The First Session at Abbey Road After Lockdown

World-renowned jazz singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Melody Gardot has released her long-awaited new album Sunset in the Blue, available everywhere now via Decca Records. An orchestral celebration of her jazz roots, the album was recorded with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in Studio One and was the first recording session after only closure in 90 years.

Featuring on the album is the new single Little Something, which sees her join forces with 17-time Grammy Award-winning music icon Sting. The duet brings together Gardot and Sting’s distinctive vocals on this up-tempo, Latin inflected pop track. Mixed by 4x Grammy-Award winner, Robert Orton (Lady Gaga, Carly Rae Jepsen, Lana Del Rey) the song was created by Melody Gardot, Sting, his long-time guitarist Dominic Miller and French producer Jen Jis.

Sting says of the duet, "This new song - co-written by my dear friend Dominic Miller - has a simple and infectious joy, and it was so much fun to trade vocals with the exquisite Melody Gardot I hope you can hear the smile in our voices.”

Melody adds: “During these complicated times, collaboration is the only saving grace for us musicians. I was so surprised when Jen Jis came to me with this track, and then to find out it was a duet with Sting! While I recognise it is a big switch from my usual musical genre, I loved having the chance to challenge myself with something new....that’s what music is all about.”

Melody Gardot made history at Abbey Road, being the first studio session after lockdown. The jazz singer was poised to record with the prestigious Royal Philharmonic Orchestra when the COVID-19 restrictions came into place and the session cancelled. She was thrilled that Abbey Road could create a safe environment for a full orchestra to record together within the social-distancing regulations. It was also the RPO’s first reunion since the lockdown.

A truly international recording session, Melody joined remotely, from Paris, along with long-time collaborator, the multi-Grammy winning producer Larry Klein, who joined from LA. Both were visible on large screens as they communicated with the engineers, Abbey Road team and musicians in London.
