Jack Savoretti Returns With ‘Europiana’ — Recorded at Abbey Road | Full Interview

25th June 2021

UK singer/songwriter Jack Savoretti returns with ‘Europiana’, the follow-up to 2019’s breakthrough album, Singing to Strangers.

While Singing to Strangers was recorded in Rome at Ennio Morricone’s studio, this new record saw Jack team up with Cam Blackwood (George Ezra, London Grammar, Florence & The Machine) and head to Abbey Road with Jack’s longtime touring band.

Savoretti arrived with the funk-infused first single, Who’s Hurting Who, featuring Nile Rodgers. Co-produced by Rodgers and Mark Ralph (Tove Lo, MARINA), Who’s Hurting Who is as a gloriously upbeat piece of soul-pop, perfectly showcasing Savoretti’s alluring vocal presence.

The song fully embodies the elegant escapism of Europiana, an album Savoretti describes as “the music of my childhood summers, remade for today.” But despite its undeniably fun spirit, Who’s Hurting Who also bears an intense emotional power. “It’s my take on the great Kris Kristofferson’s song Nobody Wins,’” Savoretti reveals. “About behaviour I’m all too familiar with, but hopefully is behind me. It’s a serious song in shiny packaging.”

Jack then dropped Too Much History, the second cut to be lifted from the new record. The song revels in disco-pop fuelled energy, atop which Savoretti showcases his dynamic vocals. On the track he says: “When you have history with someone I think that is a good reason to celebrate. This is the song to play when you’re celebrating just that
