Abbey Road Amplify x Pitchfork London Sessions: Emma-Jean Thackray

23rd February 2022

In Episode Two of our Abbey Road Amplify X Pitchfork London studio sessions, we present innovative jazz trumpeter, producer and artist, Emma-Jean Thackray.

Emma came to Abbey Road as part of our 90th anniversary and the inaugural Pitchfork London Festival last year, surprising her band with the music for her new Talking Therapy EP on the day. She and the Talking Therapy Ensemble recorded the songs live in our Gatehouse and Front Room studios with engineer Gordon Davidson.

The free jazz/punk compositions that make up the new Talking Therapy EP blur the lines of public and private lives, acting as a release for emotional struggles you might only talk about with your therapist.

Led by composer, producer, multi-instrumentalist, singer, bandleader and DJ Emma-Jean Thackray on vocals / trumpet / percussion, Binker Golding on saxophone, Matt Gedrych on bass and Dougal Taylor on drums.

The EP is out today on DSPs and will see a 12” vinyl release later in the year. It’s Emma’s third release of 2022, following Yellower Vol. 1 EP and her first score for the Netflix short film ERAX – written and directed by the acclaimed artist Hebru Brantley.

Today is also the start of Thackray’s February/March UK tour and one-off London date at EartH Theatre in April. Tickets for all dates are available here!
