What was your favourite project at Abbey Road this year?

Alex

"Matthew HerbertThe Horse. I actually did this album right at the end of 2022 but it didn’t come out till May 2023. I spent a lot of the early part of the year listening to it. Went on a lot of good walks with this in the headphones. I’d been a fan of Matthew’s for a long time, he was such a great guy and really engaging to work with. It was such a joy to be involved in such a brilliant album."

Christopher

"Definitely the most fun project this year was mixing Black Nile the debut album by The Mantecas. MD’d by my dear friend and colleague Javier Fioramonti. It was non-stop seated dancing throughout the mix. Pure joy."

Leon

"Updating Room 25 so as to be able to accommodate 2” multitrack archival work."

What was your favourite album of 2023?

Alex

"goat (JP)Joy In Fear. For once this is an easy question. I’ve become completely obsessed with this album. What a band!"

Christopher

"My favourite album release of 2023 has to the Jedi: Survivor Original Video Game Soundtrack. After pouring so much time and effort into the recording of the game soundtrack throughout 2022, to listen back through the hours of incredible new Star Wars music penned by Gordy Haab & Stephen Barton, mixed to perfection by Alan Meyerson, is indescribable. Honestly, I think it’s some of the best Star Wars music of all time."

Leon

"Valentina Goncharova Recordings 1987-1991 Vol 1 or perhaps Famous Last Words by Casisdead."

Which new artist / band are you most excited about for 2024?

Alex

"Holy Tongue. They released a brilliant debut album this year. I’m a big fan of everyone involved and I know they have some great stuff lined up for next year."

Christopher

"I’m looking forward to Katherine Priddy’s forthcoming album in 2024. I was blown away by her 2021 release The Eternal Rocks Beneath; I can’t wait to see what’s in store on the next album."

Leon

"Who am I most excited for in 2024? Rush 2.0! It’s the work of Rush, but presented as an immersive theatrical experience/escape room where the threat of Geddy Lee is omnipotent and YOU are the star. Or RISH - the music of Rush in the style of Rishi Sunak."
