James Newton Howard on Recording 'Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald' Soundtrack at Abbey Road

30th November 2018
Grammy and Emmy Award winning composer James Newton Howard and his team spent the Summer at Abbey Road, writing and recording the score to Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald.

James told us: ‘For me, working at Abbey Road is a profoundly wonderful and fulfilling experience. The place is so much more than a collection of extraordinary recording studios. Aside from having the best sounding room for recording an orchestra in the world (that would be Studio One) Abbey Road is like a magical campus that receives you with the embrace of a warm family. It is the most inspiring, professional exciting place to work that I could ever imagine’.

Listen below to several of the compositions from the soundtrack:

James also performs three solo piano pieces not heard in the film, which will also be available on the soundtrack: Dumbledore’s Theme (Solo Piano), Fantastic Beasts Theme (Solo Piano) and Leta’s Theme (Solo Piano).

Currently in cinemas, the score was written in the Gatehouse and recorded in Studio One, engineered by Shawn Murphy and assisted by Abbey Road recordist John Barrett and assistant engineers Stefano Civetta and Daniel Hayden.

The Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald Soundtrack is now available. Listen here.
