It’s been a week since our Creative Chief Advisor, Nile Rodgers, released his first album in 26 years with CHIC. Bursting with modern day groove and funk, It’s About Time is a true reflection of Rodgers’ talent and legacy within popular music. Recorded in cities around the world, the album began, ended and has been mixed and mastered at Abbey Road Studios.
Merck Mercuriadis - Chic’s manager, recently spoke to Variety Magazine about the new album “We had the coolest artists on the planet making records with the hottest producer-composer ever…. all at Abbey Road. We were bringing back the focus of who Nile was and is to song writing and producing while making the new record.”
Fans all over the world have been celebrating the release of the disco legends ninth studio album, leading it to currently sit at #10 in the UK charts. We are incredibly honoured to be a part of Nile Rodgers and CHIC’s journey with the album and the talented variety of artists they have worked with including, Craig David, Lady Gaga,Elton John, Cosha, Mura Masa, Stefflon Don, Disclosure, Anderson .Paak and Vic Mensa.
Rodgers and CHIC have not only been pleasing delighted fans from around the world, but have also attracted lots of attention in the world of music media and press. The Observer reviewed It’s About Time as “a masterly collection of relentlessly upbeat floor-fillers”, Attitude Magazine wrote “If there’s one criticism that can be levelled at the new Nile Rodgers & Chic album, it’s that there isn’t enough of it. But what is here, is quite brilliant - an urgent call to the dance floor that doesn’t wallow in despair at these troubled times but yells ‘Sod all that, let’s boogie!’
The Daily Mail also released an article that took the reader through each song, they wrote: “The first song — “Till the World Falls,” co-written by Anderson .Paak — is a welcome hit of pure Rodgers, employing his trademark funky, choppy guitar work that fuelled such disco hits as “Le Freak” and “Good Times.” The new song clocks in at over five minutes but it should be three times that length for the sheer happiness it delivers. “The world has gone mad,” the lyrics go, “we might be safer on the dance floor.” A bubbly, infectious album that seems old and new at the same time. Rodgers has once more offered pure, escapist fun and you can now find us on the dance floor. Bring your whistles.”
We recently sat down with Nile to speak to him about his long-awaited new album, he took us through his vision for the project and the relevance of the album of a body of work referring to it as a “musical journey, as I like to look at albums as films” , watch the interviews:
