Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio Suite live in Studio One

Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio Suite live in Studio One

10th March 2023

There are some events you know are going to be special.

Having hosted recording sessions for the original songs in the Golden Globe and BAFTA-winning film Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio, we were thrilled to welcome back Netflix for a special live orchestral performance of the Pinocchio Suite conducted by composer Alexandre Desplat followed by a Q&A presented by Edith Bowman with the film’s directors Guillermo Del Toro and Mark Gustafson.

Invited guests were taken on a journey as the production and creative theming were meticulously planned from the main entrance all the way through to Studio One with Pinocchio posters and beautiful wooden furniture placed in the studios as an homage to the beauty of the stop-motion animation from the film.

The evening’s performance featured a heartfelt rendition of the Oscar-nominated original song Ciao Papa performed by Josh Davidson. In attendance was the voice actor who played Pinocchio, Gregory Mann, who previously recorded the original song in Studio Three with senior engineer Andrew Dudman and recordist Daniel Hayden.

This moment was incredibly moving as it was accompanied by the live orchestra within the legendary acoustic space of Studio One, where orchestral parts for the original songs had been recorded by Peter Cobbin and Kirsty Whalley with recordist Daniel Hayden, assistant engineer Joe Wyatt and senior runner Sarah Meyz.

Special thanks go out to our incredible engineering team who worked alongside us to record this unforgettable event; Daniel Hayden, Neil Dawes, Tom Ashpitel, Annie Gasiorowski and Callum Waddington.
