Golden Globe Nominations 2021

4th February 2021

Congratulations to all the 2021 Golden Globe nominees! We’re thrilled to play a part in a few of the projects up for nomination, most notably James Newton Howard's News of the World and Alexandre Desplat's The Midnight Sky, both up for Best Original Score, and Daniel Pemberton and Celeste’s ballad ‘Hear My Voice’ up for Best Original Song - Motion Picture.

Discover the full list of projects worked on at Abbey Road that are up for nominations at February's ceremony.

Best Original Score - News of the World & Midnight Sky

Based on Paulette Jiles' 2016's excellent novel, News of the World, Tom Hanks reunites with director Paul Greengrass in this new classic Western. The prolific James Newton Howard recorded his score for the thriller over Studios One and Two, joining via Zoom whilst Gavin Greenaway conducted with Jonathan Allen engineering. Assisted by our own Gordon Davidson and Neil Dawes. The soundtrack is available to listen to now, with the film available on Netflix in February!

Starring and directed by George Clooney, the science fiction epic The Midnight Sky is also up for Best Original Score. The brilliant ‪Alexandre Desplat composed the score which, due to the pandemic, saw him lead the London Symphony Orchestra from Paris, recording 50 musicians in Studio One at a time with engineers Peter Cobbin and Kirsty Whalley. Conducted again by Gavin Greenway and assisted by Abbey Road’s Andy Maxwell and Daniel Hayden.

Best Original Song - Motion Picture - Hear My Voice

Still one of our favourite songs of 2020, Celeste's Hear My Voice is a powerful, uplifting ballad written alongside composer Daniel Pemberton for the Trial of the Chicago 7, and now up for Best Original Song at the Golden Globes! Pemberton’s score for Aaron Sorkin’s thriller was recorded in Studio Two with Sam Okell, assisted by our own Christopher Parker.

Listen to the moving single, which was recorded in-part in Studio Two.

Best Motion Picture - Animated

Onward

Set in a suburban fantasy world, Onward has been scored by brothers Mychael and Jeff Danna and recorded in-part in Studio One with a 30-voice choir, the score incorporates mystical sounds of renaissance lute and wire-strung harp that hint of the fantasy world that’s on screen.

Engineered by Fiona Cruickshank, assisted by Abbey Road's Matt Jones and George Oulton.

Over the Moon

Release on Netflix, the animated adventure film, Over The Moon, has been directed by legendary animation master Glen Keane, and takes its inspiration from Chinese tales about Chang’e, an immortal moon goddess. Featuring a score from Oscar-winning composer Steven Price that was recorded in-part in Studio One, engineered by John Barrett, assisted by Daniel Hayden and Marta Di Nozzi.

The Croods: A New Age

DreamWorks Animation’s sequel The Croods: A New Age features an original score composed by Mark Mothersbaugh which was recorded in Studio One in September. Engineered by our own Andrew Dudman, assisted by Matt Jones.
