Candidates Selected for Abbey Road Studios Scholarship and Work Placement Programme

Last year we launched the Abbey Road Scholarship Programme to support two aspiring black music producers to join the Abbey Road Institute Advanced Diploma in Music Production and Sound Engineering and then undertake one year engineering placement at the Studio. Applications closed in February and we were delighted and overwhelmed by the response and the very high standard of submissions.

The Abbey Road Scholarship Panel then had the difficult decision of choosing the two successful students who will be joining their June course this year. Congratulations to Justina and Callum!

Thank you to the panel: RAYE, Isabel Garvey (Managing Director of Abbey Road Studios), Jade Bradshaw (Head of Marketing at Polydor Records), Parris Oh (Artist Relationship Manager at Abbey Road), Andrew Dudman (Senior Recording Engineer at Abbey Road), Carlos Lellis (Institute Programme Director) and Lucy Garcia (Student Administrator & Marketing Assistant) for your commitment to supporting underrepresented groups in audio education.

On the process Raye explained: “This was both an incredibly inspiring and a humbling experience for me. There was such a roaring explosion of passion and love for music in the applications which I can empathise with all too well. The winning pair, Justina and Callum had already dedicated such a huge amount of time, resources and energy into their own independent process and growth in music and this is the exact drive and energy that you need in this business. Everyone we interviewed had an incredible creative gift, the gift of music is no joke. I just want to encourage anyone who didn’t get selected to never give up and never stop the hustle. Don’t let this no stop you fighting for your yes.”
