Biffy Clyro – ‘A Celebration Of Endings’ – Recorded In Studio Two

“We’ve been to Abbey Road before but this time I watched in awe as the orchestra played. It was really romantic and affected me a lot.”  – James Johnston, Biffy Clyro

Scottish alternative-rock titans Biffy Clyro aim to make it three UK No. 1 albums in a row with their ninth studio album, A Celebration of Endings, released today. Working with producer Rich Costey once again, the record was recorded in-part in Studio Two with engineers Jonathan Allen and Cecil Bartlett, alongside Abbey Road’s Paul Pritchard and Neil Dawes.

A record loosely based around, as the title infers, the idea that the world we once knew has ended and we’ve moved into a new era of uncertainty, the record was surprisingly all written before Covid-19 and the social and political uprisings we’ve seen in recent months.

The record is filled with blistering guitar riffs and stadium-sized melodies which have become synonymous with Biffy Clyro. The off-kilter guitar rhythms and blaring choral vocals of opener North of No South, strike an immediate entrance to a record filled with overflowing emotion, which is backed up on tracks such as Instant History and Space. A Celebration of Endings manages to tell a story and the final song on the album, Cop Syrup, includes both sides of the story into one, six minute track, perfectly summing up everything that Biffy are trying to portray.

“…AN ALBUM THAT SOOTHES, SHAKES AND SURPRISES AT EVERY TURN”  – The Independent – 4/5

We were delighted to welcome Biffy Clyro and producer Rich Costey into Abbey Road at the end of last year, where they recorded strings in Studio Two with former Abbey Road engineer Jonathan Allen, and continued to work on overdubs with engineer Cecil Bartlett, alongside Abbey Road’s Paul Pritchard and Neil Dawes.

The album is available in several physical formats including a Collector’s Edition Boxset, Vinyl, CD and Limited Edition Cassette Bundles. Fans who order or register via the official store before Monday 17 August at midnight will also receive first-access to pre-sale tickets for the forthcoming Fingers Crossed UK Tour and 2021 European Tour both of which go on pre-sale on Wednesday 19 August.
