Novelist and Abbey Road's Gordon Davidson talk to Future Music Magazine

5th July 2018
Rising Grime star Novelist and Abbey Road's Gordon Davidson invited Future Music Magazine into Abbey Road's Front Room studio to dissect his track 'Stop Killing The Mandem'. Featured on the front cover of the latest issue, Novelist breaks down the hard-hitting Grime anthem and explains the underlying layers and samples that go into making the record, including a sampled cough driving the groove of the kick drum.

Novelist, whose a strong advocate for pushing boundaries of Grime production, describes the unorthodox methods of creating his signature sound: "I put distortion on some of the drums, and really over-compressed some too. It's stuff a normal producer wouldn't really do, but I wanted to make the song sound raw. Novelist Guy, the debut release from one of the most exciting young artists to burst onto the UK music scene was partly mixed by Novelist himself and Gordon Davidson at Abbey Road Studios. The only outside input on the LP came from Abbey Road in-house engineer Gordon Davidson who took the reins on the final mix. Purchase the latest issue of Future Music Magazine.
