Three large green Indian rugs were purchased around the time of the Studio’s opening in 1931. They were used constantly on the floors of studios Two and Three until they were finally replaced in 1968.

Rugs are an indispensable and multi-faceted feature of most recording spaces - whether impacting sound frequencies, stopping your kick drum from sliding, or just adding to the vibe as decoration.

Studio Three

Throughout the 1950s and 1960s our Indian rugs lived mostly in Studio Two, laid across the back left corner to create a “dead end” where groups like The Shadows and The Beatles were placed. These acoustic dampeners made quite a large difference to the overall sound of the room and the many important recordings of this period.
