Abbey Road Studios Joins Up With Science Museum Lates

26th October 2018
As the Science Museum London celebrates the Year of the Engineer, we are proud to announce that we will be joining the museum for a very special evening exploring the world of audio engineering from its early inventions to the most recent innovations. This one-time only event will take place on 31st October from 18:45 to 22:00, and is open to the public for free. The exhibit will showcase our rich history in audio engineering through storytelling and interactive demos located in the Information Age Gallery. Our four stations will draw on expert knowledge as seen through the lens of the world's most iconic recording studio.

Station One: Abbey Road Studios - From invention to innovation. Lester Smith, Abbey Road Technical Engineer and microphone expert, will be introducing and dissecting early microphones that have been used in the studios. Station Two: Step inside Abbey Road with Virtual Reality. In collaboration with the University of York, we will present a VR walkaround of Studio Three that focuses on current spatial audio research into six-degrees-of-freedom (6DoF) for virtual reality. Station Three: Incubating the Future: Abbey Road Red. Abbey Road Studios Innovation Manager, Karim Fanous, will showcase three start-ups from the Abbey Road Red incubator that provide a glimpse of the future of innovation in music technology. Station Four: This is Future Audio. Head of Audio Products, Mirek Stiles, will share his expert knowledge on Spatial Audio and will present a short recurring talk on how the studios have been part of the journey from mono to stereo and beyond. Come and join us to learn about and experience the rich history of engineering at Abbey Road and the future of music development.
