Abbey Road Studios announce the John Lennon Imagine Folio in collaboration with Yoko Ono Lennon

9th September 2021

Introducing the John Lennon Imagine Folio in collaboration with Yoko Ono Lennon. This pair of A3 limited-edition prints, exclusive to the Abbey Road Shop, detail facsimiles of John Lennon’s drawings and handwritten lyrics.

The announcement of the Imagine Folio is in celebration of the 50th anniversary of Lennon’s iconic album Imagine, released on 9 September 1971; this is the first time John Lennon prints have been available to buy at Abbey Road Studios.

The two prints are replicas of original John Lennon artworks, the first depicting Lennon’s familiar self-portraits, originally made in 1968 for a self-published brochure of John & Yoko’s films titled On Film No.5 and Two Virgins.

The original drawing for Film No. 5 (Smile), contained 16 faces that mimicked the progression of John’s smile in the slow-motion film, which sat alongside Yoko’s essays in the brochure. The second print combines two separate John Lennon pieces - one a drawing of a person sitting on top of the world in contemplation, and the other a verse taken from Imagine, handwritten by John Lennon.

Limited to 500 prints, the Imagine Folio makes for the perfect collector’s item.

Isabel Garvey, Managing Director of Abbey Road Studios says: "We are thrilled to release this special ‘Imagine’ folio in partnership with Yoko Ono, to celebrate not only an iconic single and album but John Lennon’s artistry, and his legendary contribution to the Abbey Road story."

The Folio

Each hand-made folio is crafted from 135gsm Colorplan paper, covering a greyboard interior. The prints are both cradled with grey Colorplan holders and secured with black ribbon. The folio cover is surmounted with white foil blocking and accompanied by printed provenance, detailing these remarkable pieces.
