Abbey Road Live Cuts X Because Music: The Limiñanas

Abbey Road Live Cuts X Because Music: The Limiñanas

The penultimate episode of Live Cuts is out now!

Episode five of our Live Cuts series, produced in association with Because Music. The new episode sees The Limiñanas perform live versions of Prisoner of Beauty featuring Bobby Gillespie, taken from their recent album Faded and Salvation from their 2012 release Crystal Anis. These unique recordings have been cut to vinyl and are available for pre-order and to stream on DSPs now here.

The Limiñanas say “We were lucky enough to record two tracks at Abbey Road for the 20th anniversary of Because. An incredible day shared with Bobby Gillespie—we had such a good laugh! It was insane. A super limited 7-inch will be released from this session, where the master was cut while we were playing.”

Celebrating the craft of recording and mastering, and echoing the way music was originally recorded when Abbey Road opened in 1931, the Live Cut sessions result in a 12” single for each release, with the tracks also made available on streaming platforms. Each episode is accompanied by an exclusive short film illuminating the creative and technical processes, alongside an interview with the artist. The launch season for Live Cuts is presented in association with Because Music, in celebration of the acclaimed label’s 20th anniversary. Previous episodes featured Amadou & Mariam, Crystal Murray, LSDXOXO and Jeshi.

Forming in 2009, the French duo Lionel and Marie Limiñana aka The Limiñanas are renowned for their unique sound and blend of garage rock and psychedelia. In the course of their career, the band have collaborated with multiple artists including Peter Hook, Iggy Pop, Anton Newcombe (The Brian Jonestown Massacre) and actress Emmanuelle Seigner. Released earlier this year, their recent album, Faded, saw them work with Primal Scream’s Bobby GIllespie, film composer Bertrand Belin and Jon Spencer. The band are currently on tour in Europe.

Abbey Road’s Director of Marketing & Creative, Mark Robertson says “Harking back to how the very first recordings were made, this series is for the bravest artists only, with just one chance and one take before the track is committed to vinyl. It’s a brilliant showcase of our mastering and recording engineers, and a real thrill to welcome The Limiñanas to our house. Their precision and attack made for a dynamic and vital recording.”

Because Music UK’s Managing Director, Rhian Emanuel says ”We are delighted to partner with our friends at Abbey Road for this exciting series of live performances with some of our most treasured artists. It is always a joy for us and our artists to collaborate with such masters in the field of audio recording”.

The Limiñanas Live Cuts vinyl release is available exclusively via Because Music here and to stream here.
