MURA MASA: ‘A love letter to multicultural London’

MURA MASA: ‘A love letter to multicultural London’

24th July 2017

Described by The Guardian as ‘a cutting-edge swordsmith’ Alex Crossan is the young producer who works under the name Mura Masa and has just released his debut, self-titled album, which captures his feelings on moving to London from Guernsey. While only 21, he has already enjoyed a string of hit collaborations with the likes of A$AP Rocky, Charli XCX and Nao – the latter who was a recent visitor to Abbey Road with Nile Rodgers. The album also features Blur and Gorillaz giant Damon Albarn, French synthpop star Christine and the Queens, and Kanye West collaborator Desiigner.

Love$ick, the air-horn assisted calypso banger, features vocals from A$AP Rocky recorded at Abbey Road’s Studio Two. Alex recently told the Evening Standard: ‘He’s an A-list celebrity and we only had a couple of hours, so I wanted to make sure we got an amazing recording.’

A few weeks back, Abbey Road’s artist-in-residence Jill Furmanovsky took some exclusive photos of Alex in Studio Two and our new studio, The Gatehouse, which you can see here. We caught up with him after the shoot to talk about his music and working at Abbey Road.
