Meet Axel Lang, Abbey Road Studios Agent for Argentina & Peru

Meet Axel Lang, Abbey Road Studios Agent for Argentina & Peru

16th August 2017

I’m Axel Lang, an Argentinian musician, music producer and sound engineer. I lived in London from 2013 through 2017 and only came back home to Buenos Aires because my missus and I are going to be parents very soon!

The first time I learned about Abbey Road Studios was at the age of six, sitting down on the floor at home, in front of my father’s sound system. It was then, staring at The Beatles’ album Abbey Road cover art, when something happened, connecting my dreams with this magical place.

In 2014, while studying my masters in Music Production and Sound Engineering in London, I received an email from Christian Wright, Mastering Engineer at Abbey Road, who wanted to know more about the Latin American music scene. After a first meeting he introduced me to Head of Mastering Lucy Launder, eventually resulting in me becoming the Studios’ Agent for Argentina & Perú. Since then, we’ve been working together on over 20 jobs each year, bringing the Abbey Road Studios excellence to the Latin American music market.

My job is to ease the communication between the client/artist and the Studios. This is not just a language issue. On one hand, it can be easy to get lost in translation, but what’s more important is the music argot language involved in the different processes. Also, it is key to choose the right engineer that best suits the album we are working on. Abbey Road has the best mastering engineers in the world, each one an expert in their specific genre. Knowing them personally, allows me to match the right one with the needs of the artist or client.

The mastering suites are magical. The hardware, the mastering console, almost everything has been there since The Beatles era (with one or two technological advances!). When music goes through them, you can feel the difference. It’s an immediate quality booster. Finally, the engineer takes it that extra mile. Abbey Road Studios has what it takes to surpass the expected and turn a very good work into one of excellence.

One of the moments I enjoy the most is when artists attend the mastering sessions. You can see the joy in their faces as soon as they step into the building. Then you can see their faces glow as they listen to the first tracks going through the mastering process in the mastering suite. They become speechless! The same happens when we show them around the studios, especially when we go into Studio Two. Even I can still feel the power of that room. It’s like being part of history, the history that changed music forever. We have worked on lots of top Argentinian artists together – in fact, lots of them won awards after working with us. The list is long, but just to mention a few:

Indio Solari - La Película

Los Pericos - SoundAmérica

Angela Torres (Warner)

Toco Para Vos (Warner)

Mimi Maura & The Agrotones

Sueño de Pescado - Mil Pasos

Working for and with Abbey Road Studios is a milestone in anyone’s music career. There is no other place with such a story, full of success and magic. It’s a dream come true and a blessing for that little boy who sat down for hours listening to The Beatles and wondering about the most famous zebra crossing in the world. At the same time, he is helping his country’s music industry to get better and better, with every album that goes through the one and only recording, mixing and mastering studio in the world: Abbey Road Studios.
