15th December 2017

2017 has been a phenomenal year in music; the sheer volume and quality of new releases, remasters and film scores has been overwhelming. It fills us with pride to know that the amazing Abbey Road team played their part in making it all happen.

Now as the days get shorter, the weather turns nasty and 2017 draws to its inevitable close, we can’t help but feel a tad reflective and look back on the year that’s passed.

So, we asked around Abbey Road Studios to find out the highlights of the year for our engineers and studio staff – their favourite projects to work on, the favourite albums of the year, and of course, what they want to get for Christmas.

Frank Arkwright, Mastering Engineer.

Highlight of 2017: Mastering Roxy Music with Bryan Ferry and Rhett Davies.

Favourite Album of 2017: It’s gotta be Liam Gallagher - As You Were.

Favourite Christmas song: It's a tie between The Pogues - Fairytale of New York and Skinny Lister - Christmas Calls

All I want for Christmas is: a Bulldog.

Tip for 2018: Cassettes are back in town!

Alex Gordon, Mastering Engineer.

Highlight of 2017: A toughie, but I'd have to say being promoted to mastering engineer at Abbey Road Studios was pretty good. Also, facetiming Giggs.

Favourite Album of 2017: I can’t choose just one… Erskine Lynas – Lease Of Youth / Sudan Archives – Sudan Archives / Future – HNDRXX / Tim Heidecker – Too Dumb For Suicide.

Favourite Christmas song: Nate Dogg & Snoop Dogg – Santa Claus Goes Straight To The Ghetto.

All I want for Christmas is: Fully Automated Luxury Communism.

Tip for 2018: Noname deserves to be huge.

Lucy Launder, Head of Mastering.

Highlight of 2017: Being involved with The Rolling Stones and the Demix process, also the continued strength of vinyl and Abbey Road’s place within it as a premier mastering house to get your project cut at.

Favourite album of 2017: The National - Sleep Well Beast, or LCD Soundsystem – American Dream.

Favourite Christmas Song: Greg lake - I Believe in Father Christmas.

All I Want for Christmas is: Lots of snow!
