The past year has been a whirlwind at Abbey Road Institute, as our specialist music production school goes from strength to strength. The diploma programme has an ever-expanding roster of guest lecturers and recording sessions as well as a developing curriculum. Here are just a couple of highlights from the past few months. Freaking out with CHIC following on from Nile Rodgers appointment as Chief Creative Advisor to Abbey Road, the Institute team were delighted to bring in CHIC musicians Jerry Barnes, Ralph Rolle and Russell Graham for a dedicated masterclass in Studio One. Students were invited to be part of a recording session, during which Jerry and team worked on some soon to be released tracks. The musicians and producer also shared insightful words of wisdom and advice from their personal experiences in the industry, from the importance of being humble to how to handle rejection.

Creative studio techniques with Sylvia Massy

What do pickles, cheese and potatoes have to do with recording? Our students discovered some weird, wacky and wonderful recording techniques with Sylvia Massy, who introduced avant-garde ideas to creating new and innovative sounds. Sylvia shared her expertise in how to get the best out of an artist whilst also turning traditional recording techniques on their heads. Spoiler alert - we also found out that Sylvias favourite food filter is the humble potato.
