Last Thursday we launched a nationwide competition with Metro to find the UK's best new band or producer. We've already had 300 entries to put in front of our judges:
- Metro music & arts journalist Malcolm Jack
- Chic legend Nile Rodgers
- Abbey Road engineer Matt Mysko
Here Matt tells us what he is looking for:
"There are many ways in which a track can be great. Looking retrospectively the best songs of all time have rarely shared the same attributes. One invokes the feeling of hope, another is built on just two chords, one has a jaw dropping guitar solo whilst another is written about a train station. However, these songs already exist and have all been imitated many times. It’s time to look to the future. I’ll be listening for something different, but ultimately a piece of music that really shines for whatever qualities it may possess."
