Abbey Road Studios’ Sophie Ray reports on the first of our two UK festival experiences.
We took Abbey Road to Norwich last weekend, giving festival goers at Sundown the chance to record a song for free in our very own pop-up ‘SongShack’ - a small but perfectly formed mobile studio.
Recording was led by Stefano Civetta and Jack Mills from the engineering team, while Jack Linton and myself manned the bookings and helped singers of all ages choose from a list of over 30,000 songs.
Aside from some rousing renditions of Frozen, Bon Jovi and Dolly Parton (to name but a few fantastic guest choices), we also had the pleasure of welcoming rising star and Abbey Road client Zak Abel for a live session and interview with W!ZARD Radio before his set on the Main Stage. Listen to Zak’s interview and stripped back acoustic track here. You can also check out Stefano’s interview with W!ZARD Radio about his work at Abbey Road here.
As well as the live session with Zak, we managed to record a few quick performances with some amazing upcoming artists from the Platform Stage, including Kris Evans, Platnum and Impilo.
Thank you to everyone who visited us over the weekend and a particular shout out to Joshua, who joined me for probably the best and worst duet of The Phantom of the Opera you will ever hear! We’re looking forward to doing it all over again this weekend at Reload Festival. See you there!
