Stefan’s mastering work spans globally charting releases and culturally impactful projects across genres. In 2026, he mastered the No. 1 Mando-Pop album Dance Until We Die by Van Ness Wu . His credits also include work for Republic Records with hard-rock artist Rett Smith , releases by electro-punk duo Shelf Lives featured in NME , and a 2025 Christmas No. 1 contender with Vicky McClure’s Our Dementia Choir and The Spudbros . Alongside major-label and chart-topping projects, he continues to shape forward-thinking independent releases worldwide.
Stefan’s passion for music began early, thanks to his father owning a renowned record store in Soho, where he was immersed in a world of high-fidelity audio and an eclectic mix of music from metal and industrial to art-rock and intricate electronic. He first discovered mastering early on through the habit of studying the credits on record sleeves.
At the age of 20, Stefan ventured into mastering himself, quickly building a client base in underground dance and electronic music scenes across Europe and the US, whilst simultaneously completing a degree in Audio Engineering at SAE Institute London. He quickly expanded to mastering other genres, ranging everywhere from pop to harsh-noise. Stefan continues to work primarily with independent artists and labels, maintaining a strong personal involvement with his clients and their music, ensuring their artistic intent is realised to the highest possible outcome.
Stefan’s mastering philosophy is centred on establishing the emotional content of the music, understanding what will resonate with the listener long after playback ends, with a specific attention to depth, atmosphere, tone and impact.
“Stefan Brown, on top of delivering the best mastering we have ever seen as a band; has been one of the most positive, thorough and responsive people we’ve ever worked with. Stefan puts beyond a job of mastering behind his work, he truly leaves parts of his soul in what he touches. We are beyond blessed to have crossed paths with him this early in our bands career, and cannot wait to continue working together.” - The PLEIADES
“Stefan restored my faith in mastering as an art form. He’s magic!” - Tim Mikkola/The Vantages
