Having had lessons in piano since the age of four and guitar since the age of eight, music has always been an important part of Wil’s life. Borrowing his Dad’s MP3 player for the long bus ride to school at an early age led him to develop a love for a variety of genres, from rock ’n’ roll to early electronica to classical and film music.
A growing fondness for the music of film, TV and video games caused Wil to start writing his own scores at school for various projects, alongside playing guitar in a number of bands. This, teamed with an opportunity to travel to Paris and record choral concerts, ignited a passion for musical sound engineering and subsequently Wil decided to apply for the Tonmeister course at the University of Surrey.
Wil joined the team at Abbey Road in 2021 as part of his placement year and has since worked on a range of exciting projects with composers such as James Newton Howard, Danny Elfman, Bear McCreary and Daniel Pemberton.
“It’s incredible to work in a building where you can have a large scale film score session in one studio and a rock band in the next… not many places offer the level of versatility that Abbey Road does and it’s an honour to be a part of the studio’s extensive history.”
