Shaping the Future of Music Technology since 1931

Building on a legacy of more than 88 years of groundbreaking technological advances at the studios – from the creation of stereo and recording techniques such as Artificial Double Tracking (ADT), to the blueprint for the modern recording console and more - Abbey Road Red is our open innovation department. Its purpose is to support the endeavours of the brightest music tech entrepreneurs, researchers and developers and help introduce the next set of universally adopted recording technologies into the music business.

We run a unique music tech incubation programme that is unmatched in its bespoke nature and reach, the only one of its kind in Europe and the first when launched in 2015. We collaborate with the brightest minds in academic research; we are committed to sharing knowledge and empowering the industry; and we are pioneering and exploring the adoption of Spatial Audio in the recording chain. The white lab coats are long gone at Abbey Road, but the pioneering spirit of adventure is still as present as ever.

The Incubator

We run Europe’s first, and leading, music tech specific incubator programme. We find and nurture the most promising music tech start-ups and give them developmental value that no other incubator can, from a completely bespoke programme to access to Abbey Road and Universal Music’s industry leading expertise, personnel and facilities, our leading network of experts and companies and much more.
