The REDD consoles were central to a shift in sound recording during the 60s that saw technicians and musicians work closer than ever at Abbey Road to develop wildly experimental techniques. EMI’s Record Engineering Development Department (REDD), the REDD mixing desks are prizedfor their extraordinary warmth and lush stereo imagery. Perhaps REDD’s greatest achievement, the REDD.51 was key to the pioneering psychedelic sounds of Pink Floyd’s seminal debut album Piper at the Gates of Dawn and a majority of The Beatles’ output between 1963 to 1968.
