60th Anniversary of the 7' Single
Earlier this week saw the 60th anniversary of the 45rpm 7' single, the first of which was released by RCA in the US on 31st March 1949. With our long history of cutting records, Abbey Road has a special association with the 7' single, and remains one of the few studios in the UK which still offers a vinyl mastering service. The BBC have created a photo gallery documenting the vinyl production process, from recording studio to record shop, and visited us recently to take some pictures of the initial cutting process in our mastering rooms.
