The Beat Goes On Exhibition

EMI, Abbey Road Studios and EMI Archive Trust have lent items to a major exhibition for National Museums Liverpool this summer, as part of Liverpool's Capital of Culture celebrations. 'The Beat Goes On: From the Beatles to the Zutons' highlights the achievements of Merseyside artists over the years.
EMI has a long relationship with Liverpool musicians from the Beatles, Gerry & the Pacemakers, Cilla Black and Atomic Kitten, and was invited by National Museums Liverpool to participate in this major exhibition. Items lent include a tape machine that was used to record the Quarrymen and a booklet from the church fete in 1957 where Paul McCartney met John Lennon. Abbey Road lent vintage Neumann U47 and U48 microphones, as used by the likes of the Beatles, and a BTR2 tape machine. The BTR2 was the follow-up to EMI's groundbreaking BTR1 tape recorders. Other loans include a working sketch by Peter Blake for the Beatles' Sgt Pepper album cover, a Wurlitzer juke box, a studio set up sheet for Gerry & the Pacemakers and promo material for The Beatles and Atomic Kitten.
The exhibition is on until 1st November 2009 at the World Museum, Liverpool.
