Abbey Road Studios’ Anthem Competition – Winners

19 September 2011

At the beginning of 2011, Abbey Road Studios launched a worldwide search for original, unsigned and undiscovered composers, in celebration of our 80th anniversary. The Anthem Competition was open to musicians of all ages across the globe.

The unique prize for winners is the opportunity to record the original work in Abbey Road Studios’ famous Studio One, with the internationally regarded London Symphony Orchestra, some of the UK’s finest singers and conducted by renowned composer Eric Whitacre.

We were overwhelmed by your response. We received an unprecedented range of music and expressions, from composers of all ages and abilities worldwide. Our judges were faced with the incredible challenge of choosing winners from over 900 entries.

We were really impressed by the sheer effort and time people gave to their compositions, and would like to thank everyone who took part.

After weeks of review, the judges have made their final selection of 8 winners and we are delighted to announce that the winners are:

Daniel Brinsmead – Come Sleep (Australia)
Daniel Elder – The Heart’s Reflection (New Jersey, USA)
Tina Andersson – The Angel (Gothenburg, Sweden)
Zhangyi Chen – Ariadne’s Love (Baltimore, USA)
Oliver Chapman & Will Clapson – Made of Ghosts (Cambridge, UK)
Steven Jackson – So Alive, So Clear (Manchester, UK)
Stephen Lindsay – A Million Stars (Australia)
Cyrus Almonde – Thank You Eternally (Guernsey)

Eric Whitacre called each of the winners personally, to congratulate them on their success.

We will welcome the winners to the studios later this month, to take centre stage and record their compositions.

We look forward to sharing the results of their time in the studio with you – keep checking www.abbeyroad.com for updates!
