Andy Walter - Mastering
Biography
Andy has a diploma in sound engineering and recording. He joined Abbey Road as editor and mastering engineer in 1991 with. A classical engineer by training, he specialises in both pop and classical surround mastering. I n the field of historical restoration he has become one of the world's foremost transfer engineers, winning four Gramophone awards and twice being nominated for an American Grammy award. Andy has given various lectures and interviews on re-mastering and mastering techniques to both professional and academic institutions in the USA, Europe and the UK. As a surround mastering engineer Andy is in great demand, working on a multitude of DVD projects for a host of 'A' list artists including Coldplay, Kylie, U2, The Cure, David Bowie, Robbie Williams, Radiohead and The Who. During his career Andy has worked on many notable projects, not least with the world-renowned opera singer Dame Elizabeth Schwarzkopf and legendary cellist Mtislav Rostropovich. Recent projects have included EMI Classics 'Great Recordings of the Century Edition', the continuation of the ever-popular References Series and the restoration of various third-party world music back catalogues. Andy is increasingly the mastering engineer of choice for the film and stage industries, mastering the CD soundtrack albums of Hollywood award-winning blockbusters, such as Harry Potter - The Order of the Phoenix, Eragon and the London cast album of Lord of the Rings, Dirty Dancing and Love Never Dies. He is currently actively involved in mastering surround media, working on the SKY HD logos and mastering and compiling the critically acclaimed SKY Arts series From the Basement, with Radiohead producer Nigel Godrich.
