Sam Okell - Recording & Mixing
Biography
In a relatively short space of time, Sam has honed his engineering skills working across a diverse range of musical projects, equally enjoying the challenges of recording and mixing music for films, working with bands and remastering and remixing classic albums.
From 2010 to 2011, alongside Peter Cobbin, Sam recorded and mixed Alexandre Desplat's scores for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, parts I and II. He has continued his film work in 2012, starting off the year by mixing the epic score for Wrath of the Titans, composed by Javier Navarette. Sam also mixed Breath of Life for Florence + the Machine, a track written especially for the film Snow White and the Huntsman.
Other film music credits include mixing scores for Harry Gregson Williams, Life in a Day; Gabriel Yared, Adam Resurrected; James Brett, Lay the Favourite and Nick Hooper, Stella Days.
Sam hugely enjoys working with bands and during 2011 recorded tracks with The Cribs for their album In the Belly of the Brazen Bull. He has also recorded and mixed many great artists for the TV series Live from Abbey Road; highlights include episodes featuring PJ Harvey, Fleet Foxes, Counting Crows, The Mars Volta, Friendly Fires, Laura Marling, Ryan Adams, Foster The People and Glasvegas.
Sam has won two Grammys for his remastering work: the first in 2011, as part of the Abbey Road Studios team responsible for re-mastering the entire Beatles catalogue from the original mono and stereo master tapes, and the second in 2012 for remastering the classic Paul McCartney and Wings album Band on the Run.
Other significant re-mastering projects include restoring and remixing the entire soundtrack of The Beatles' film Help! in 5.1 surround and stereo and re-mastering George Harrison's second solo album Living in the Material World. Sam also assisted in the creation of 5.1 mixes of over 40 songs for Paul McCartney's greatest hits DVD, The McCartney Years.
Chaka Khan said he has nice glasses and Jack White offered him a bagel.
