34 Years Of The Dreaming

34 Years Of The Dreaming

13th September 2016
Kate Bush’s seminal fourth Studio album The Dreaming is 34 years old today.

Released on 13th September 1982 and produced over two years entirely by Kate it was her most experimental album to date, and contained extensive use of the Fairlight CMI digital sampling synthesizer, ground breaking at the time, as well as guest spots from traditional Irish folk bands Planxty and The Chieftains.

An art rock album at heart it debuted at No.3 in the UK album charts on its release despite being labelled “uncommercial” by some critics, and contained songs with lyrics covering everything from old crime films to Stephen King’s horror classic The Shining, the war in Vietnam, the anguish of the Aboriginal Australians and the life of American illusionist Harry Houdini.

It was to be her penultimate album to be recorded in part at Abbey Road Studios, and the video for the first track and single ‘Sat In Your Lap’ was filmed here in Studio Two.
