The fourth studio at Abbey Road was added in 1980 and named The Penthouse due to its location on the top floor of the building. The room is flooded with natural light from windows that offer views to Abbey Road’s garden. The Penthouse is a wonderful monitoring space and a powerful all-digital mix suite.
There is a small isolation booth designed to record single instruments or house a music editor. The Penthouse has hosted many film soundtrack, album and surround mixes from all three Lord of the Rings films to the recent Ridley Scott film The Martian.
